The reason for cutting some of the tape is to make it easy for you to unplug one of the speakers. Just unplug the left speaker, then plug the right speaker in.

After doing this you need to connect some wires to the two speakers. The reason I suggest two wires, is to allow you to easily change the volume on the left speaker and the right speaker.
